Thoreau, Henry David: Walden

Henry David Thoreau bor under 2år i en stuga vid sjön Walden. Han lever nära naturen och på sitt eget arbete. Walden är hans berättelse om dessa 2 år, kombinerat med reflektioner om naturen, livet och vårt samhälle. Han kritiserar arbetet och påpekar den andliga fattigdomen hos dem som jobbar mer än nödvändigt. Hellre då kontemplera och studera naturen, sitt inre och den klassiska litteraturen. Boken är utgiven 1854 och har beskrivits som "part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and manual for self reliance".
